Cuisine
The Turkish cuisine is very often under estimated and most visitors visiting for the first time are very surprised buy it. The basic meat here is lamb, the favourite being the ‘shish kebab’: pieces of meat skewered and then char grilled. Served with lots of bread and fried onions, these are not to be missed. Their cooking is quite simple but delicious. Aubergines are another popular ingredient in their cuisine but not to be compared with what we know from the UK. Char grilled with vegetables and chilli in a traditional salad topped with the local yoghurt (pure heaven.) Fish is another large part of their staple diet and it doesn’t come any fresher than this.
Borek is also a popular dish that comprises of meat, cheese or potatoes wrapped in a flaky pastry and served hot. Sweets are also very popular and they like them sweet. The most famous of all must be Baklava and this is a treat not to be missed when in Turkey.
Coffee and tea are all very popular here. The traditional thick black coffee, made in their own special way and served in small china cups, is pure pleasure.
