Local Area: Altinkum/Didim

The tourist resort of Altinkum (meaning Golden Sands) with its coastal line of approx 80km has three main beaches and over 100 small coves. This is a 10-minute bus ride from the complex. The beachfront promenade is lined with traditional tourist eateries, bars and great shopping. Here after dark there is a lively atmosphere with plenty of entertainment to keep you going into the small hours. The area has it’s own microclimate and enjoys nearly all year round sunshine, it is not unusual to see people enjoying the beach in January.

Travel back towards the old town of Didim and enjoy more traditional Turkish hospitality with first class restaurants and coffee houses. The locals are among the friendliest people you will ever meet and they will go out of their way to accommodate your every need. People who visit Altinkum go back year after year. The resort is also a big favourite with Turkish holidaymakers and many families have holiday homes here.

There is a substantial investment continuing in Altinkum with two planned golf courses and the multi million pound marina project. Due to be completed in 2009, this will provide one of the largest marinas on the Aegean coast. There will also be first class hotel, bars, restaurants and shops. A large leisure facility is also planned.

Altinkum is very family friendly and children are well catered for. A short distance from the complex there is an excellent water park, the shallow beaches are very safe for the youngsters and there is even a small fun fare open until midnight.

A few years ago my boyfriend suggested we go to Turkey for a holiday. I had never been there before and was slightly apprehensive after some friends had given bad reports.
