Culture

Traditional Turkish lamps, rug weavingTurkey’s culture can vary greatly depending on which area you choose to visit, but many of the larger towns and cities are very European. Many of the areas now popular with foreign buyers have taken steps to update the culture to accommodate the changes, and visitors will very quickly feel at home.

Hospitality has always been very important to the Turkish people and they have always been kind to foreign visitors. It was very common for them to offer food and shelter to visitors that entered Turkey. That is still very evident today and it has been known for villagers to offer shelter to passing tourists. When in shops and bazaars shopkeepers will offer you food and beverages.

The family is very important in Turkish culture and it is common for two or three generations to live together. It is very important for the family to sit down together for meals at least twice a day.
